QPR Shocker! 16-Year-Olds Set to Star in Carabao Cup Clash!
Queens Park Rangers are set to field a youthful squad in tonight's Carabao Cup match against Plymouth Argyle, with two 16-year-old prodigies potentially making their mark. Winger Kalen Brunson and forward Ashley Trujillo have been included in the squad for the first-round tie at Home Park, offering a glimpse into the future of the club.
If either Brunson or Trujillo feature, they could become the second-youngest player to represent QPR's first team. Scott Donnelly currently holds that title, having made his debut at 16 years and 298 days old in 2004. Brunson is 16 years and 121 days old, while Trujillo is 16 years and 249 days.
The club's record for the youngest player remains with Frank Sibley, who debuted at the tender age of 15 in 1963.
Youthful Exuberance
With several senior players unavailable, QPR head coach Julien Stephan is expected to name a team dominated by development squad members. Paul Nardi is set to start in goal, but the focus will be on the young talents eager to impress.
Brunson's journey to QPR is an interesting one. The Bermudian arrived in December through a football-schools programme run by former R’s defender Matthew Rose. Trujillo, born in London, has represented Colombia at youth level, showcasing his international pedigree.
Another player to watch is 17-year-old midfielder Teddy Tarbotton, previously with Hull City, who is also in contention to feature.
Argyle's Perspective
Plymouth Argyle are also expected to make changes to their lineup. Ayman Benarous is in line for his first start in over three years after battling back from serious injuries. Rumarn Burrell, a former Argyle transfer target, could also feature for QPR.
QPR began their Championship season with a 1-1 draw against Preston North End, while Argyle have lost their opening two League One games. Both teams will be looking to gain momentum and give valuable experience to their young players in this Carabao Cup encounter.
