Kentucky and southern Indiana are under a snow alert as a winter weather system brings mixed precipitation, transitioning to all snow overnight. Residents should prepare for slippery road conditions and potential travel disruptions.
Snowfall Predictions
Meteorologists predict that most areas will see between 2 and 4 inches of snow, with totals decreasing to less than an inch south of the Kentucky Parkways. Some areas in Louisville and southern Indiana are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches.
Winter Weather Advisory in Effect
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from 9 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday, warning of hazardous road conditions that could impact Tuesday morning's commute. The National Weather Service advises drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed.
Safe Driving Tips
- Drive slowly and increase following distance.
- Brake early and slowly, especially when approaching intersections, off-ramps, bridges, or shaded areas.
- Be aware that untreated roads will become slick as temperatures fall below freezing.
Extended Forecast
The snow is expected to exit the area by sunrise on Tuesday, but travel issues may persist due to lingering snow and ice. Tuesday will be cloudy and cold, with temperatures remaining below freezing for most areas. Tuesday night, temperatures are expected to plummet into the teens and low 20s, potentially leading to black ice formation on untreated roads.
An Arctic front is expected to move in late Wednesday night, bringing a round of light snow and flurries. Additional light snow chances are possible later this week and this weekend. Stay tuned to WAVE News and WHAS11 for the latest updates.
