The Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has given assurance to voters in Ablekuma North Constituency say military no go dey deployed for today parliamentary elections. Dis dey come ahead of di important rerun election.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Boamah emphasize say Ghana Police Service go be solely responsible for election security, reiterating di government commitment to peaceful and democratic process. “There will be no military deployment!” he emphasize, repeating di assurance multiple times in his post.
Dis move dey look like direct response to past incidents of election-related violence, including di Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election for 2019 and di deaths of eight civilians during di 2020 general elections. “Let’s prioritize citizen safety and security”, he add.
He express confidence for di ability of di police service to maintain law and order. “Di Ghana Police Service dey trained to handle electoral security, and we trust dem to do their job.”
Di Minister also call for calm and orderly atmosphere as voters dey head to di polls, highlighting di stakes of di by-election as part of broader effort to “reset Ghana and create more opportunities” under di leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
