The practical session of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates (WASSCE-SC) for this year has commenced smoothly in senior high and technical schools nationwide. Candidates are currently engaged in projects assigned to them as part of the examination process.

Visual Arts Candidates Busy Sketching

During a visit to several schools in Accra, including Accra High School, Labone SHS, and St Thomas Aquinas SHS, Visual Arts candidates were observed diligently sketching projects that they will be developing further.

At Accra High School, students were undertaking Sculpture and Leather Work examinations during the Daily Graphic’s visit. Many candidates were seen wearing working coats while sketching, while others were in their regular school uniforms.

The Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics at Accra High School, Fred Oppong Ampofo, also the WASSCE Supervisor, stated that Sculpture had 45 candidates, and Leather Work had 47, bringing the total to 92. The practical examination will span three weeks, with a different paper each week.

Upcoming Practical Examinations

Next week, candidates will undertake Textiles and Picture Making examinations, followed by Graphics, which is compulsory for all in the third week. Mr. Ampofo emphasized that students have been thoroughly briefed on the rules and regulations of WAEC and the consequences of examination malpractice.

"Our students are well psyched up psychologically because the guidance and counselling unit has also taken them through some psychological practices," he added. A total of 652 candidates are sitting for the WASSCE at Accra High School this year.

Similar scenes were observed at Labone SHS and St Thomas Aquinas SHS, indicating a smooth start to the practical examinations across the various schools.
