Brownwood Officer Shot! Suspect Dead After Wild Overnight Gunfight
Brownwood Police Officer Wounded in Overnight Shooting
A Brownwood Police Officer is recovering after being shot multiple times during an overnight incident involving a suspect who is now deceased. The Brownwood Police Department released details of the event that unfolded late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
On July 7, 2025, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Brownwood PD received a call reporting shots fired in the 2000 block of 7th St. The caller stated her husband was firing a gun in the front yard. Reports indicated 2 to 3 shots were fired.
The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Holly Edward Oliver, left the 7th St residence in his pickup truck, reportedly heading to an address on 1st St.
Suspect Opens Fire on Police Vehicles
Just after midnight on July 8, 2025, officers located the pickup in the 300 block of Corrigan St. As officers prepared to approach the vehicle on foot, Oliver began driving toward the parked police vehicles. He pulled alongside an unattended patrol vehicle and opened fire into the driver’s side window with what appeared to be an automatic rifle. Multiple shots were fired.
Officers took cover and returned fire as Oliver continued down the road. On Norwood St, Oliver drove toward approaching officers, firing at them as they exited their vehicles.
Gunfight Ends with Suspect's Death
Oliver continued to actively seek out and shoot at officers, exchanging gunfire as he drove in reverse until his pickup stopped at the intersection of Norwood and Vincent St. Officers approached the vehicle, removed Oliver, and initiated life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Hendrick-Brownwood and pronounced dead.
A Brownwood Police Officer was shot multiple times during the incident. The officer's condition is currently unknown.
