The corruption case involving former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been postponed until November 21st, 2025. The Pretoria High Court granted the postponement to allow her legal team more time to review the case docket, which they only received last week.

Mapisa-Nqakula is facing serious allegations, including 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering. These charges relate to her time as Defence Minister between 2016 and 2019.

The prosecution alleges that she received approximately R4.5 million in bribes from Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu, a defence contractor. In return, she is accused of facilitating tenders with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

Advocate Cronjé Kriel, representing Mapisa-Nqakula, stated that they require more time to issue subpoenas for bank statements and to thoroughly consult with their client. This is crucial before potentially making representations to the National Director of Public Prosecutions.

“We need to peruse the docket to take instructions, and then there are further subpoenas that we need to issue for information back statements and so that will take approximately six weeks to finalise. We would therefore request that the matter be postponed at your discretion until the 21st of November 2025 to finalise the pre-trial issues,” Kriel explained.

What's Next?

The postponement allows Mapisa-Nqakula's legal team to prepare their defense and gather necessary evidence. The case is expected to resume in November, where further developments are anticipated.

Key Issues:

  • Docket review requested by defense.
  • Allegations of R4.5 million in bribes.
  • Tenders with SANDF under scrutiny.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
