Mogalakwena Municipality Battles Corruption Allegations: Premier Denies Involvement

The Mogalakwena Municipality in Limpopo is embroiled in a controversy following serious allegations of corruption leveled against Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba and other provincial officials. The municipality has vehemently denounced these claims, stating they are completely unfounded and part of a deliberate smear campaign.

The allegations surfaced through social media posts, purportedly from Mogalakwena Municipal Manager Morris Maluleka, detailing corrupt transactions involving millions of rands to companies linked to Premier Ramathuba and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Basikopo Makamu. However, the municipality has clarified that Maluleka does not even possess a Facebook account, dismissing the posts as fake and an act of cyberbullying.

Mogalakwena Mayor Ngoako Tauetsoala has strongly condemned the posts and affirmed the municipality's commitment to transparency. He has confirmed speaking directly with Municipal Manager Maluleka, who denied any involvement with the social media accounts or the alleged transactions. The municipality has escalated the matter to law enforcement agencies for a thorough investigation.

Premier Ramathuba Responds

Premier Ramathuba has personally refuted the allegations, describing them as a calculated attempt to damage her reputation. Her spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha, stated that the claims reflect a “fundamental misunderstanding” of how government operates, emphasizing that municipal councils and managers operate independently and do not report directly to the Premier or MEC.

Ramathuba has called upon law enforcement to investigate the source of the allegations and ensure the safety and protection of Municipal Manager Maluleka amidst the ongoing controversy. She urged community members to disregard the unfounded claims and maintain trust in public officials dedicated to serving the people of Limpopo.

The Mogalakwena Municipality has confirmed that a case has been opened with law enforcement agencies, and investigations are underway to uncover the origin and veracity of the allegations.
