Proteas Women Squad Announced for 2025 World Cup! Who Made the Cut?
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially unveiled the Proteas Women's squad that will represent South Africa at the highly anticipated ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in India from September 30th to November 2nd. The announcement has generated considerable excitement amongst cricket fans across the nation.
Leading the charge will be captain Laura Wolvaardt, a seasoned player expected to guide the team with her experience and leadership. She will be supported by a strong core of experienced players, including Chloé Tryon, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, and Suné Luus, all of whom bring significant skill and experience to the squad.
The squad also boasts explosive batter Tazmin Brits and talented all-rounders such as Nadine de Klerk, Anneke Bosch, Annerie Dercksen, and Nondumiso Shangase, adding depth and versatility to the Proteas Women's lineup.
A notable inclusion is 17-year-old Karabo Meso, who will join Sinalo Jafta in the wicketkeeping department. Meso, a teammate of Jafta in domestic cricket, will be participating in her first senior World Cup after showcasing her talent in two ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cups in 2023 and 2025. Her inclusion highlights CSA's commitment to nurturing young talent.
Nonkululeko Mlaba will spearhead the spin attack, while Masabata Klaas and Tumi Sekhukhune will provide seam bowling options. Miané Smit has been named as the travelling reserve, a role she previously filled during last year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The Proteas Women will begin their World Cup campaign against England on October 3rd, followed by matches against New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. They will conclude the league phase with a match against Australia on October 25th.
Ahead of the World Cup, the team will tour Pakistan for three one-day internationals in Lahore on September 16th, 19th, and 22nd, providing valuable preparation for the tournament ahead. South African cricket fans are eagerly anticipating the Proteas Women's performance in the World Cup, hoping they can bring home the trophy.
