Eish, what a day for athletics! The World Athletics Championships in Tokyo are on fire, and Day 2 delivered some serious drama and world-class performances. Two new 100m champions were crowned, and the crowd at the National Stadium went absolutely wild!
Jefferson-Wooden Blazes to Gold, Seville Makes History
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden from the USA proved she's a force to be reckoned with, smashing the championship record in the women's 100m final with a blistering time of 10.61 seconds. She left her rivals in the dust, showing why she was the favourite coming into the competition. After her bronze at the Paris Olympics, she had her eyes set on the top spot and delivered big time!
But the excitement didn't stop there. Oblique Seville from Jamaica made history in the men's 100m final, clocking a personal best of 9.77 seconds. This makes him the first Jamaican man since Usain Bolt to win a global 100m title. The crowd went crazy as Seville ripped his vest in celebration. Fellow Jamaican Kishane Thompson took silver, making it a one-two for Jamaica. Noah Lyles from the USA had to settle for bronze.
