Tragedy in Grant County: One Dead, Several Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash
GRANT COUNTY, Indiana - A devastating multi-vehicle collision in Grant County has claimed one life and left several others injured. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at approximately 8:45 PM on State Road 9 at Meridian Street, near Marion.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a traffic accident involving multiple vehicles. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with four vehicles involved in the wreckage and multiple individuals requiring medical attention.
Emergency services swiftly transported the injured to Marion Health (Main) for treatment. Tragically, a 57-year-old woman from Marion was airlifted by medical helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of her family by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
Preliminary investigations suggest that three vehicles were traveling southbound on State Road 9, while the fourth was heading northbound. Authorities believe one of the southbound vehicles slowed or stopped to make a left turn onto Meridian Street when it was rear-ended. The impact caused the vehicle to spin into oncoming northbound traffic, resulting in the chain-reaction collision.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Indiana State Police, is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the crash. Authorities have stated that the information released is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation progresses.
