Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has turned down a staggering offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. The Riyadh-based team, now managed by former Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, offered Ausilio a three-year contract worth €10 million (approximately R180 million) per year, according to reports. This would have tripled his current salary at Inter.

Ausilio has been with Inter since 1998, starting in their youth system. He briefly worked at Spezia before taking on his current role in 2010. Despite the lucrative offer, Ausilio chose to remain with the Nerazzurri, demonstrating his long-term commitment to the club.

Al-Hilal, clearly ambitious, is still looking to strengthen their team. Having already secured Simone Inzaghi as manager, they are reportedly still interested in Inter midfielder Nicolò Barella. The Saudi club is also searching for a new sporting director. Monchi recently resigned from Aston Villa and could be a potential candidate, along with Paul Mitchell (formerly of Newcastle United) and Rui Braz from Benfica.

The pursuit of top European talent by Saudi clubs shows no signs of slowing down. While Ausilio has declined their offer, Al-Hilal's continued interest in players like Barella indicates their determination to build a competitive squad. It remains to be seen who they will ultimately appoint as their new sporting director.

Other Potential Sporting Director Targets

  • Monchi (ex-Aston Villa)
  • Paul Mitchell (ex-Newcastle United)
  • Rui Braz (Benfica)

What's Next for Inter Milan?

With Ausilio staying put, Inter can continue their plans for the upcoming season with stability in their management structure. The club will be focused on retaining key players and competing for titles in Serie A and European competitions.
