Greek Derby Ends in Thrilling Draw! Panathinaikos & Olympiakos Tie!
The Greek Super League witnessed a fiery start to derby season as Panathinaikos and Olympiakos battled to a 1-1 draw. The result means that no team retains a perfect record after four rounds of intense competition.
Dessers Opens Scoring, El-Kaabi Responds Late
At the iconic “Apostolos Nikolaidis” stadium, former Glasgow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers ignited the home crowd, putting Panathinaikos ahead just three minutes into the second half. This marked the first goal Olympiakos had conceded in any competition this season, highlighting the potency of the Panathinaikos attack.
Despite creating numerous opportunities, particularly in the second half, Olympiakos struggled to break down the resolute Panathinaikos defence. The equaliser finally arrived in dramatic fashion during injury time, courtesy of Ayoub El-Kaabi, saving Olympiakos from a potentially damaging defeat.
Kontis Takes the Helm at Panathinaikos
This match marked the debut of Christos Kontis, a former Olympiakos player and coach, as the new manager of Panathinaikos. Kontis stepped in after the dismissal of Portuguese manager Rui Vitoria last Monday. It remains to be seen how long Kontis, initially appointed as caretaker, will remain in charge.
