R10 More! SASSA Grant Increase & October Payment Dates Announced!
Great news for social grant beneficiaries in South Africa! The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced a slight increase in social grant amounts, effective from the October 2025 payment cycle. This follows the announcement made by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during the Budget Speech earlier this year.
What's Changing?
Beneficiaries can expect a R10 increase across various grant types. While it may seem small, SASSA CEO Themba Matlou emphasizes that this adjustment is crucial in protecting the most vulnerable and easing their financial burdens.
Here's a breakdown of the updated grant amounts:
- Old Age Grants: Increasing from R2310 to R2320
- Old Age Grants (older than 75 years): Increasing from R2330 to R2340
- War Veterans Grant: Increasing from R2330 to R2340
- Disability Grant: Increasing from R2310 to R2320
- Care Dependency Grant: Increasing from R2310 to R2320
Important SASSA Payment Dates for October 2025
Mark your calendars! SASSA has also confirmed the payment dates for October 2025:
- Old Age Grant: 02 October 2025
- Disability Grant: 03 October 2025
- Children’s Grant (and all other grants): 06 October 2025
Biometric Enrolment & Changing Payment Methods
SASSA reminds all new grant applicants that biometric enrolment (fingerprint or facial scan) is now mandatory to prevent fraud. Over 42,000 clients have already been enrolled since the rollout on September 1st.
If you need to change your payment method, here's what you need to do:
- Bring your valid South African ID and proof of account from your bank (a three-month bank statement if it's an existing account).
- Visit your nearest SASSA local office to complete a consent form.
Remember to submit your request before the 19th of the month for it to take effect in the following payment cycle. SASSA urges beneficiaries to keep their details updated to avoid any payment disruptions.
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou has reassured beneficiaries that the October payment cycle is ready to go and that all eligible individuals will receive their grants without interruption.
