Toluca Shocks LA Galaxy! Epic Campeones Cup Win in Last Gasp!
Wow! What a game! Toluca snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, beating LA Galaxy 3-2 in a thrilling Campeones Cup final. The match, held at Dignity Health Park, saw Toluca score two late goals to claim the title.
Galaxy's Early Lead
LA Galaxy took the lead in the first half after Gabriel Pec was brought down in the box. Diego Fagúndez converted the penalty, putting the home side ahead. Toluca responded with Nico Castro hitting the post, but went into halftime trailing 1-0.
Toluca's Comeback!
Toluca's Nico Castro finally found the net with a long-range effort in the second half, but the Galaxy soon regained the lead. With just minutes remaining, it looked like the trophy was heading to Los Angeles. But Toluca had other ideas!
Franco Romero equalized in the 87th minute, and then Federico Pereira scored the winner in the 92nd minute, sending the Toluca fans into raptures. It was an incredible turnaround!
Why No Marco Reus for Galaxy?
Galaxy fans were disappointed to see Marco Reus absent from the squad. He's been struggling with a muscle injury for over a month, and wasn't fit enough to even make the bench. It looks unlikely he'll feature again this season, especially after the Galaxy's poor MLS campaign.
