Bafana Bafana's World Cup Dream: Can They Conquer Zimbabwe?

"We deserve to be at the FIFA World Cup," Broos declared, as the national team gathered in Johannesburg this week. The squad is gearing up for their away qualifier against Zimbabwe, scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. They will then conclude their campaign against Rwanda at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Tuesday, October 14. Both matches are set to kick off at 6pm.

"There are no doubts, and there have never been any doubts from my side. I will make sure to instill this belief in the players during our meeting on Tuesday," Broos stated.

"I have faith in this group, and I am confident they will give their all to win Friday's game. Why should we question ourselves now after our performances in the qualifiers? If any team deserves to go to the World Cup, it's South Africa."

However, not all is smooth sailing. Relebohile Mofokeng has been ruled out due to injury, with Mduduzi Shabalala called up as his replacement. Lyle Foster and Sphephelo Sithole are expected to join the squad soon. Iqraam Rayners has also been withdrawn for medical reasons, replaced by Evidence Makgopa.

According to Doctor Khumalo, Relebohile Mofokeng's absence might affect Bafana Bafana in crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Orlando Pirates winger is a trusted player by coach Hugo Broos.

The team will remain in Johannesburg until Thursday before heading to Durban for the Zimbabwe clash. They will then travel to Mbombela on Saturday to prepare for the decisive match against Rwanda – a game that could secure their place in North America.
