Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is singing the praises of Al-Ettifaq winger Mohau Nkota, highlighting his rapid development and growing importance to the national squad. Nkota, a 20-year-old left-footer, has secured his place in the 23-man squad for the crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
Nkota's Bafana Bafana debut came in June in a goalless friendly against Tanzania. He quickly followed this with his first international goal in a 3-0 victory over Lesotho at the Free State Stadium. His performance against Nigeria at the same venue further solidified his position in the team.
Broos Impressed by Nkota's Performance
Broos was particularly impressed with Nkota's display against Nigeria, a team known for its physicality. He lauded Nkota's fighting spirit and his ability to overcome his relatively shorter stature.
"Honestly, he surprised me against Nigeria," Broos stated. "I was a little bit afraid when you see that [Calvin] Bassey on the left-back position and you look at [small] Mohau. But he’s fantastic, he works a lot on the pitch. He’s not lazy, not at all, he’s technically good and quick."
Nkota's Growth Since Pirates Promotion
Broos also noted Nkota's significant progress since being promoted at Pirates. "He’s made enormous evolution since he was promoted at Pirates. Every week, he has become better and better," he added.
Bafana Bafana Face Zimbabwe in Crucial Qualifier
Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana are preparing to face Zimbabwe in a vital World Cup qualifier. The team suffered a setback after being docked three points for fielding an ineligible player, leaving them needing a win to boost their qualification hopes.
The match will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Coach Broos will be counting on players like Lyle Foster and Teboho Mokoena to secure a positive result. The game kicks off at 5pm BST and will be available for viewing in the UK via the Fifa+ streaming service.
