Johannesburg - Socialite and businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is facing a massive auction of her assets by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to recover an estimated R40 million in unpaid taxes. The auction includes a range of luxury items, from high-end vehicles to designer goods.
Luxury Cars and Designer Bags Under the Hammer
The first phase of the auction featured a stunning 2022 Mercedes-Benz S680 Maybach Edition 100, valued at approximately R5.6 million. This is just the tip of the iceberg, as roughly 41 vehicles linked to MaMkhize are reportedly being auctioned. Among them is a Lamborghini, currently listed on Auto Trader for nearly R5.8 million.
But it's not just cars. Bidders’ Choice is also auctioning off MaMkhize’s collection of luxury designer bags. The online bidding commenced on Friday, October 10th, and will conclude on Wednesday, October 15th. Potential buyers had the opportunity to view the items in person between Monday and Tuesday at locations in Bapsfontein, Pretoria, and Mooikloof, Pretoria.
Construction Equipment Also Up For Auction
Beyond the glitz and glamour, the auction also includes a significant number of construction vehicles. Reports indicate that 23 such vehicles are being auctioned, including a Kubota three-cylinder tractor, a 2009 Komatsu WA250 front-end loader, a 2008 Mitsubishi Fuso FV 26-310 concrete mixer, and a 2008 Hamm GRW 18 pneumatic roller.
Concerns Over Documentation
However, some of the machinery appears to lack the necessary documentation. Vehicles such as a 3-point roller T602 and a 2008 Cat RM 300 recycler are reportedly without proper papers, raising questions about the legitimacy of linking their ownership to MaMkhize in the absence of official records. An inquiry has been sent to Bidders’ Choice seeking clarification on these undocumented vehicles.
This auction follows a previous one in June, where a string of BMWs, Mercedes-Benz vehicles, 4x4s, and even a Royal AM team bus were sold off. The latest auction underscores SARS's determination to recover the R40 million tax debt owed by the socialite.
