England's women's cricket team is on a roll at the World Cup! Led by the new captain and coach duo of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Charlotte Edwards, they're bringing a fresh energy to the game. All-rounder Alice Capsey highlights how the new leadership is impacting the team's approach and strategy.
England's Unbeaten Streak
Sciver-Brunt's team has already secured victories against South Africa, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. They were strong favourites going into their match against Pakistan in Colombo, aiming to extend their winning streak.
Capsey's Perspective
Capsey, batting at number seven and offering a fourth spin option, emphasized the significance of maintaining winning momentum as they approach crucial matches against India, Australia, and New Zealand later in the group stage. She noted the positive changes since Nat Sciver-Brunt and Charlotte Edwards took over, mentioning how they're discussing the game differently.
"The change in leadership with Nat and Lottie coming in has been really refreshing, in the sense that we're talking about the game in a different way," Capsey told BBC Sport. She also expressed admiration for Edwards' experience and the opportunity to learn from her achievements as a player.
While acknowledging Pakistan's winless record, Capsey cautioned against underestimating them, stating, "I know they haven't won a game so far but they are definitely not a team we are taking lightly."
Adapting to Conditions
Capsey, who has significant T20 experience in India, acknowledged the challenges presented by the spin-friendly conditions in her first 50-over World Cup. She described the experience as a learning curve, noting the contrast to the flatter pitches she encountered during the WPL. "I've never experienced anything like this," said Capsey. "It's been a real learning curve but an amazing one to learn from."
