Brace Yourselves, Mzansi! Weekend Weather Warning Issued!
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a widespread warning for showers and thundershowers across much of South Africa this weekend. Get ready for some wet weather!
A Yellow Level 2 warning is in effect for severe thunderstorms in the North West province on Friday. This means residents should be prepared for heavy downpours, localised flooding (especially in low-lying areas and bridges), damaging winds, hail, and excessive lightning. Stay safe out there!
What's Causing This?
SAWS explains that a trough over the western interior and a high-pressure ridge over the eastern parts of South Africa are the culprits. This combination will bring isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers to most regions.
Where Will It Be Dry?
The Northern Cape is expected to remain largely dry, so if you're in that area, you might escape the worst of it.
Weekend Forecast:
- Friday: Severe thunderstorms in North West (Yellow Level 2 warning). Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers elsewhere.
- Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of SA.
- Sunday: Cool to warm conditions with isolated thunderstorms in Eastern and Northeastern regions.
Fire Danger!
Extremely high fire danger conditions are also forecast over the Northern Cape, western and central North West, western Free State, northwestern Eastern Cape and northern Western Cape. Be extremely cautious with any open flames.
