Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has pulled off a major coup! He's secured special permission from Japanese clubs to select his Japan-based stars for key matches on the Springboks' year-end tour. This is massive news for South Africa's rugby campaign!
Boks Boosted for Brave Blossoms and Wales Clash
According to reports, Erasmus has received the green light to include his Japan-based players for the opening match against Japan's Brave Blossoms at Wembley on 1 November, and the final showdown against Wales in Cardiff on 29 November. These crucial fixtures fall outside World Rugby's official Test window, which usually demands players return to their clubs.
This decision means a host of key Springboks will be available, including:
- Malcolm Marx
- Faf de Klerk
- Cheslin Kolbe
- Lood de Jager
- Manie Libbok
- Damian de Allende
- Jesse Kriel
- Kwagga Smith
- Franco Mostert
- Jasper Wiese
Strategic Play Against Japan
Erasmus explained the Japan match is strategically important. It will provide game time for players who haven't been actively involved in the Vodacom URC since the Rugby Championship concluded, and for those returning from injury.
"The Test against Japan is to give the players who don’t currently have a league to play in, some game time, as well as for players who’re just returning from injuries," Erasmus stated.
The Springboks also face France, Italy, and Ireland in November, making it a demanding tour. Having these key players available is a significant advantage.
The Springboks will be looking to build on their Rugby Championship success, which saw them recover from a shaky start to retain the title, including a memorable victory over the All Blacks.
