JOHANNESBURG - The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has announced a significant leadership change. Vuyo Zungula will no longer serve as the party's president, a decision made to allow him to dedicate his efforts to the ATM's work within Parliament.

Professor Ceaser Nongqunga, who also serves as the chief apostle of the Twelve Apostles Church in Christ, has been appointed as Zungula's replacement. This strategic move aims to bolster the party's growth and expand its reach across South Africa.

Why the Change?

The ATM's national executive committee believes that Zungula's expertise and dedication are crucial for holding the government accountable within Parliament. They cited his pivotal role in pursuing accountability from President Cyril Ramaphosa regarding the Phala Phala scandal, despite the ATM's limited representation in the previous Parliament (only two seats).

Focus on Growth

Professor Nongqunga's appointment signals a shift towards prioritising the party's organizational growth. His primary responsibility will be to expand the ATM's footprint and increase its support base. The party believes separating the parliamentary and organizational leadership roles is a necessary step to achieve these goals.

The ATM leadership believes this strategic realignment will strengthen both its parliamentary presence and its ability to connect with voters. The party expressed confidence that both Zungula and Nongqunga will excel in their new roles, driving the ATM forward.
