Nigerian winger Moses Simon has opened up about his move from Nantes to Paris FC, and his reasons might surprise you! Ahead of Paris FC's clash with Nantes, Simon revealed the emotional connection he still has with his former club. But why did he leave?
Simon, a Super Eagles star, spent six successful seasons at Nantes, becoming a fan favourite and even helping them lift the Coupe de France. He made 201 appearances, scoring 37 goals and providing 42 assists. Leaving was a tough decision.
'I Could Have Stayed For 20 Years!'
"I was a little sad to leave; I could have stayed in Nantes for 20 years," Simon admitted. "I had a strong bond with the supporters. I kept the Nantes jersey in my heart. I still have it at home."
So, what made him choose Paris FC? According to Simon, it comes down to ambition. While he acknowledges Nantes' aspirations, he feels a stronger drive and desire to achieve something special at his new club.
Paris FC's Ambitious Project
"There's also ambition at Nantes, but here, we feel more of a desire to do something," Simon explained. "I'm happy to be back with my friends and to be able to talk with them tomorrow. But what I want above all is to win. It's an important match for me and the club."
Paris FC has invested heavily in strengthening their squad, aiming to make a significant impact in Ligue 1. Simon believes he can contribute even more, despite a solid start to the season with two goals and two assists.
It's clear this match against Nantes will be an emotional one for Moses Simon, but his focus is firmly on securing a win for Paris FC and proving that his decision to join the club was the right one.
Manager Stéphane Gilli is looking for more consistency from Simon, but recognizes his importance to the team's ambitions.
