Disturbing satellite images and verified videos are revealing a grim reality in Sudan's Darfur region. As the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary rebels seized a key city, evidence suggests widespread mass killings. The Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) at Yale School of Public Health has observed numerous clusters with discoloration around them, consistent with the appearance of human bodies scattered across the city.
Evidence of Mass Killings
These apparent mass graves have been identified at a hospital, throughout residential areas, on the city's outskirts, and near military bases of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Nathaniel Raymond, a human rights and war crimes investigator at HRL, stated that the alleged killings occurred within 72 hours of the RSF taking control.
Tactical Posture Suggests House-to-House Killings
Raymond and his team observed a surge in objects measuring between 1.3 to 2 meters across the ground. Based on their length, shape, and corroborating videos from the ground depicting alleged systematic civilian killings, HRL Yale concluded that these objects are human bodies. In Daraja Oula, a neighborhood where civilians sought refuge, the tactical positioning of vehicles suggests house-to-house killings.
"In Daraja Oula -- a neighborhood where civilians have been hiding -- we're seeing a tactical posture on the vehicles that is highly consistent with house-to-house killing," Raymond told ABC News. "This is also consistent with video and testimony from those who reached Tawila. Particularly women, who
