CAF Confed Cup: Chiefs Face Zamalek in Epic Group Stage Clash!

The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26 group stage draw has set the stage for thrilling encounters, with an Egyptian derby between Zamalek and Al Masry headlining the action. The draw, conducted in Johannesburg, has also pitted South African giants Kaizer Chiefs against Zamalek in a highly anticipated Group D showdown.

Group D: A Battle of Titans

Kaizer Chiefs face a daunting task in Group D, alongside Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek, Al Masry, and Zambian side ZESCO United. Zamalek, the 2023/24 champions, will be a formidable opponent. This group promises intense competition and exciting football.

This clash marks the first encounter between Chiefs and Zamalek since 1993, adding historical significance to the fixture. Chiefs previously defeated Ismalia en route to winning the 2001 African Cup Winners’ Cup but lost to Al Ahly in the 2021 Champions League final. Their past encounters with ZESCO United in the 2018-19 Confederation Cup saw the Zambian club emerge victorious.

Other Group Stage Highlights

  • Group A: USM Alger (Algeria), Djoliba AC de Bamako (Mali), Olympique Club de Safi (Morocco), and FC San Pedro (Cote d’Ivoire) will battle for supremacy.
  • Group B: Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), AS Maniema (DR Congo), Azam FC (Tanzania), and debutants Nairobi United (Kenya) create an intriguing mix.
  • Group C: CR Belouizdad (Algeria) will face Stellenbosch FC (South Africa), AS Otoho (Congo), and Singida Black Stars (Tanzania). Stellenbosch, a semi-finalist last season, will look to continue their impressive run.

The group stages kick off on the weekend of 21-23 November, with the remaining rounds resuming after the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. The current champions, RS Berkane of Morocco, will not be defending their title this year.

The stakes are high, with the winner receiving USD 2 million in prize money. Teams advancing from the group stage are guaranteed a minimum of USD 550,000. Football fans across the continent are eagerly anticipating the start of the competition.
