Johannesburg – The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry continues to unearth startling revelations. Crime Intelligence Head General Dumisani Khumalo has dropped another bombshell, alleging that Deputy National Police Commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya sometimes uses a vehicle registered to a known serial hijacker.
Sibiya and the Hijacked Bakkie: What We Know
During his testimony, General Khumalo stated that the Toyota bakkie occasionally driven by Sibiya is registered under the name Stuart James Scharnick. He raised serious concerns about Scharnick's criminal history, highlighting numerous theft and hijacking convictions within a short timeframe.
"The list is reflected. There are lots of questions. If you commit so many thefts and hijackings within the space of two years and you are found guilty, how many years and when are you saving your sentences, because everything is like in a very short space of time, that is part of investigation that is still ongoing. That is the criminal profile of the owner of the bakkie," Khumalo stated.
More Revelations: Gauteng Task Force and Alleged Criminal Cartel
Khumalo's testimony also shed light on the deployment of extra task force members from outside Gauteng province to the home of Vusuzumi “Cat” Matlala, an alleged member of a criminal cartel, in December 2024. Matlala faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering.
General Khumalo revealed that Matlala had a security detail of over 20 former task force members. This necessitated bringing in a highly trained combat team for the search and questioning operation.
The Arrest of Katiso “KT” Molefe
The inquiry also touched upon the arrest of Katiso “KT” Molefe, another alleged criminal cartel member facing murder charges. Khumalo identified Mr. Boy Mthethwa as the individual who initiated the Hawks' involvement on the day of Molefe's arrest.
The Madlanga Commission continues to investigate these complex issues, promising more revelations as the inquiry progresses. Stay tuned to NewsRPT for the latest updates.
