The game started with high intensity, with Sundowns taking the lead in the 16th minute. Thato Sibiya set up Siyabonga Mabena, who skillfully dribbled past the Stellies defender before unleashing a strike that beat the goalkeeper. The first half ended with Sundowns leading 1-0.
In the second half, Sundowns continued their dominance. Chuene Moabelo, coming off the bench, extended their lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute. Stellenbosch managed to pull one back when Tauric Gameldien capitalized on a rebound after Langelihle Phili's shot was saved.
