Proteas Women Face West Indies in ODI Series Opener
The South African women's cricket team, the Proteas, are battling the West Indies women in a three-match One Day International (ODI) series in the Caribbean. The first match took place at the Three Ws Oval in Cave Hill, Barbados, with the West Indies winning the toss and electing to bowl first.
This series is followed by a three-game T20 International (T20I) series, making for an action-packed tour. The Proteas are keen to start the ODI series on a high note. Captain Laura Wolvaardt acknowledged the threat posed by the West Indies, highlighting their ability to quickly change the game with their powerful batting lineup. Wolvaardt emphasized the importance of thorough planning and performing at their best.
"They're a team that can easily take the game away from you with how much power they have. We're still going to do our due diligence with our planning and make sure that we're on top of our game," Wolvaardt stated prior to the match.
Adding a significant boost to the Proteas squad is the return of star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who has rejoined the team after a period of rest.
