Emma Raducanu shone at Queen's Club, leading a trio of British players into the second round of the WTA 500 tournament. Raducanu secured a comfortable straight-sets victory over Spain's Cristina Bucsa, winning 6-1, 6-2. This result marked a significant turnaround after Bucsa defeated Raducanu earlier in the year at the Singapore Open.

“I’m still trying to find my groove on this surface,” Raducanu admitted, but her performance suggested otherwise. She added, “I knew today would be a very difficult match… I was trying to make sure that didn't happen again and fight to get myself into the second round.”

Raducanu's victory was complemented by strong performances from Katie Boulter and Heather Watson, marking a successful day for British women's tennis. Boulter overcame a tough challenge from Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic, winning 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-4. Watson also secured her place in the next round.

However, not all went as planned. Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova crashed out of the tournament, suffering an upset defeat to Rebecca Sramkova. Sramkova's 6-4, 6-3 victory marked her first WTA main draw win on grass.

Raducanu's Next Challenge

Raducanu is set to face Rebecca Sramkova in the second round. Sramkova, buoyed by her victory over Krejcikova, will undoubtedly provide a stern test for the young Brit.

Boulter's Delight at Queen's Return

Katie Boulter expressed her excitement about the return of women's tennis to Queen's Club. “To have the women back here, it feels very special,” she said. “It's something I've dreamt of, actually walking out on this court.”
