Phakamani Mahlambi, the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker, might be making a return to professional football! After a lengthy period without a club, Mahlambi has been spotted training with TS Galaxy, sparking rumours of a potential signing.
This comes after a previous trial with Durban City, where he trained for several weeks under Gavin Hunt, who also gave Mahlambi his professional debut at Bidvest Wits. However, Durban City ultimately decided against offering him a contract.
Mahlambi last played professionally in September 2021 for Chippa United, also under the management of Gavin Hunt at the time. Now, TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic has indicated that the club is willing to give Mahlambi a second chance.
Beganovic's Belief in Mahlambi
"Amazing player, amazing skills," Beganovic commented. "We made the decision with the chairman, he asked if we want to try to push him, if we want to try to bring him back on the business."
He added, "I think he deserves a second chance and we are happy to maybe to do, it’s on him – everything is on him. He needs to proof, he needs to push. But I think what I saw until last, the last five training sessions, he tries, he pushes himself."
Beganovic emphasized the challenges Mahlambi has faced, highlighting the rapid change from playing for one of Africa's biggest clubs to facing uncertainty. He stressed the importance of Mahlambi's determination to fight and stand up again.
What's Next for Mahlambi?
The potential move to TS Galaxy could also see Mahlambi linking up with his younger brother, Seluleko Mahlambi. Whether Phakamani Mahlambi can seize this opportunity and reignite his career remains to be seen, but the chance to prove himself at TS Galaxy is a significant step in the right direction.
