Chiefs Dominate Brumbies in Super Rugby Pacific Semi-Final!
The ACT Brumbies' Super Rugby Pacific campaign came to an end against a dominant Chiefs side in Hamilton, with the minor premiers securing a 37-17 victory. Damian McKenzie was the star of the show, contributing 22 points through six penalty goals and converting both of Emoni Narawa's tries.
The Brumbies managed three tries of their own, courtesy of Corey Toole (two) and Billy Pollard, but ultimately couldn't match the Chiefs' firepower. The Chiefs will now face the Crusaders in Christchurch after their thrilling win over the Blues.
Early Setbacks and Brumbies' Resistance
The Chiefs suffered an early setback when Tupou Vaa’i was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle on Billy Pollard. The Brumbies capitalized immediately, with Pollard scoring a rolling maul try.
However, the Chiefs quickly regrouped and worked their way back into the game. A failed HIA for Noah Lolesio was a blow for the Brumbies, and Emoni Narawa's quick thinking around the ruck saw him score a try to level the scores. Two penalties from McKenzie gave the Chiefs the lead.
McKenzie's Dominance Seals the Victory
Replacement Jack Debreczeni injected some energy into the Brumbies, setting up Corey Toole for a try in the corner, reducing the deficit. However, McKenzie continued to punish the Brumbies with further penalties, giving the Chiefs a 19-12 lead at halftime.
Toole's second try after a brilliant run reduced the margin to just two points, but the Chiefs responded strongly. Narawa's second try, following a Quinn Tupaea break, broke the Brumbies' defence. Two further penalties from McKenzie sealed the victory for the Chiefs, sending them through to the final.
Key Moments:
- Tupou Vaa’i's yellow card and Billy Pollard's subsequent try.
- Noah Lolesio's failed HIA.
- Emoni Narawa's two tries.
- Corey Toole's impressive double.

The Chiefs' strong performance, particularly in the second half, proved too much for the Brumbies, who will now look to regroup for next season. The Chiefs, on the other hand, have a Super Rugby Pacific final against the Crusaders to look forward to.
