Dundalk FC Bags New Signing! Will This Star Boost Their Season?

Dundalk FC Welcomes JR Wilson!

Dundalk FC has announced the exciting signing of right-back JR Wilson! The 26-year-old joins the Lilywhites from Athlone Town, bringing a wealth of experience from across the League of Ireland. Wilson, a First Division winner with Shelbourne in both 2019 and 2021, is ready to embrace the promotion challenge with Dundalk.

Wilson expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with Dundalk head coach Ciarán Kilduff, a key factor in his decision. "I’ve been chatting to the manager the last few weeks," he said. "He’s kept in contact over the years since we worked together at Shelbourne, and I’m honestly honoured to be here now. This is a massive club, and it’s great to see it going in the right direction again."

Having started his underage career at Kilnamanagh AFC, Wilson moved to Bray Wanderers’ U19s in 2015 before joining Bohemians the following year. Since stepping up to senior football in 2018, he’s played for Bray, Bohs, Shelbourne, Sligo Rovers, and Athlone Town.

Kilduff Plans More Moves

Wilson's arrival will add both experience and leadership to a youthful Dundalk squad. He's been impressed by the team from afar, stating, "It’s a fairly young group but with some really good players. I’ve played against a lot of them and they’ve always stood out. Hopefully I can add a bit of experience and help push the lads on in the second half of the season." Dundalk boss Ciarán Kilduff is expected to add further to his squad ahead of next month’s transfer window.

Wilson also complimented the facilities at Oriel Park and voiced his excitement about finally being on the home side after years of tough battles as an opposition player. "I’ve had a few scraps up here over the last eight years, so I’m glad to be on this side now! The facilities have surprised me to be honest, the gym, the indoor area, everything is top class."
