Wimbledon Surprise: Canadian Model Takes on Tennis World!
Carson Branstine, a Canadian tennis player and professional model, is making waves at Wimbledon. Ranked No. 197 in the WTA, Branstine funds her tennis career through modelling, showcasing a unique blend of athleticism and aesthetics.
Balancing Tennis and Modelling
Branstine is signed with two modelling agencies, and her Instagram account (@carsonbranstine) offers a glimpse into her dual life. She enjoys being in front of the camera and appreciates the financial independence modelling provides, allowing her to pursue her tennis dreams without relying on her parents.
“I love being in front of the camera during a shoot. It’s fun, I love fashion. It’s been one of the reasons I’ve been able to pay some of my trips. I didn’t want to ask my parents for anything — I wanted everything to come from me and from my tennis,” Branstine stated.
Wimbledon Qualifying Upset
Branstine recently caused an upset in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying, defeating France’s Lois Boisson, a recent Roland Garros semifinalist, with a score of 6–2, 6–7 (1), 6–4. This victory secured her spot in the main draw, where she will face Aryna Sabalenka.
“We’re not in Paris anymore — this is grass, and it’s basically a different sport,” said the 24-year-old. “I have a lot of confidence in myself. Maybe not everyone knows who I am, but I believe I can beat anyone. I know my game can stand up to anyone’s, and I’m glad I can show that now.”
Sabalenka Awaits
Aryna Sabalenka, a top contender at Wimbledon, will face Branstine in the first round. Sabalenka has reached the semi-finals in her last two appearances at the All England Club and is eager to claim the title. While Sabalenka is the favourite, Branstine's recent form and determination make her a potentially challenging opponent.
Branstine, despite past injuries, possesses a powerful serve and aggressive groundstrokes. Her journey from funding her career through modelling to competing at Wimbledon is an inspiring story of perseverance and passion.
