Percy Tau Link! New Zamalek Coach Knows Bafana Star – Shock Twist!
Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek SC is making headlines! After a rollercoaster season and a managerial merry-go-round, they've seemingly settled on Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera. But the plot thickens! Ferrera has openly admitted he knows Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau.
Ferrera Takes the Reins at Zamalek
Ferrera's appointment follows the sacking of Jose Peseiro and puts an end to weeks of speculation linking several coaches, including South African favourite Pitso Mosimane, to the job. Mosimane, a free agent since January, was heavily tipped for the role. However, reports suggest Zamalek has a policy against hiring coaches who previously worked for their rivals, Al Ahly, where Tau currently plays.
What Does This Mean for Percy Tau?
Ferrera's familiarity with Tau could spark some interesting developments. The Belgian coach acknowledged watching the Egyptian Premier League closely during his time linked with Al Ahly, specifically mentioning Tau's impact.
"I followed the Egyptian Premier League more closely after my name was linked with Al Ahly," Ferrera said. "I watched many of the team’s matches… I know Percy Tau, as he previously played in Belgium."
Could this lead to a potential transfer bid in the future? Only time will tell. For now, Tau remains a key player for Al Ahly. Zamalek, meanwhile, are looking to rebuild after a disappointing season, which saw them win the 2024-25 Egypt Cup but ultimately fall short of expectations. The club has also announced the departure of Ayman El Ramady and his technical team.
