Rangers manager Russell Martin is playing it cool amidst swirling rumours linking veteran striker Jamie Vardy with a move to Ibrox. Vardy, recently released by Leicester City, is reportedly considering his options, and Rangers have emerged as a potential destination.

Martin, however, remained tight-lipped when quizzed about the possibility after Rangers' pre-season friendly draw with Club Brugge. "I think I’ve been asked about so many players," he stated, neither confirming nor denying interest. "Some miles away, some on the money. So basically, I’m not going to give you an answer on that. But I guess you’ll find out who's real and who's not in the next few weeks."

The 38-year-old Vardy, a former England international, had a proposed move to Genoa fall through recently, further fueling speculation about his next club. His experience and proven goal-scoring record would undoubtedly be a valuable asset to Rangers as they look to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.

Rangers have already been busy in the transfer market, adding five new players to their squad this summer. Martin hinted at further activity, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. "I think we definitely want to do more, for sure," he said. "And also probably some players need to move on as well at some point because the squad’s going to start looking very big and very heavy."

The future of current Rangers strikers Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane is also uncertain, with both players linked with moves away from the club. Dessers, Rangers' top scorer last season, missed the friendly against Club Brugge due to injury, but Martin expressed his desire to keep the Nigerian international, despite interest from AEK Athens.

Whether Vardy will be joining Rangers remains to be seen, but Martin's cryptic comments have certainly added fuel to the fire. Football fans in South Africa will be eagerly awaiting developments in the coming weeks.
