JBay's Back! Jordy Smith Rides Home Wave for World Title Glory!
Jeffreys Bay is buzzing with excitement as the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour returns to South African shores! The Corona Cero Open is back at J-Bay from 11-20 July, and local surf legend Jordy Smith is leading the charge.
Jordy's Home Turf Advantage
After a one-year hiatus due to the 2024 Olympics, the event is expected to draw massive crowds and global attention to Jeffreys Bay, known as one of the best right-hand point breaks in the world. For Jordy Smith, this is more than just another competition; it's a homecoming. "Coming home is the best part of my entire year," says Jordy. "The fact that I get to be with my family in J-Bay during the event makes it really special. It is my favourite event of the year."
A Season of Success
At 37, Jordy is riding high on a wave of momentum. With two victories already under his belt in 2025 – in El Salvador and Australia – he's currently topping the Championship rankings. This impressive season has earned him the coveted yellow jersey, a symbol of his current leadership position. He'll be facing American Crosby Colapinto in Heat 4, a rematch of their semi-final clash in Australia.
More Than Just a Competition
The Corona Cero Open J-Bay is more than just a surfing competition; it's a celebration of South African pride. As the only African stop on the Championship Tour and the 10th of 11 events in the 2025 season, it's a crucial point in the race for the world title. The event is expected to welcome over 70,000 visitors, adding a significant boost to the local economy.
