G'day, Mzansi! Hold onto your hats! New Jersey is bracing for some serious weather today. Severe thunderstorms are predicted to hit this afternoon and evening, bringing high winds and heavy rain. The northern counties are expected to bear the brunt of the storm.

What to Expect:

  • Damaging Winds: Gusts up to 70 mph are possible.
  • Large Hail: Keep an eye out for potentially large hail.
  • Heavy Rain: Expect some proper downpours.

The National Weather Service has issued a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) of severe weather for areas north of I-78. The rest of the state is under a marginal risk. The peak time for severe weather is expected to be between 2 and 8 p.m.

Heat Before the Storm:

Before the storms arrive, temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and near 90 degrees Fahrenheit (around 30 degrees Celsius), with high humidity making it feel closer to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius). So, it's going to be a scorcher before the storm hits!

Relief is Coming:

The good news is a cold front is expected to sweep through late Sunday night, bringing much-needed relief from the heat and humidity. Monday through Wednesday are looking like crackers weather days with mostly sunshine, comfortable temperatures in the low 80s Fahrenheit (around 27 degrees Celsius), and refreshingly low humidity. Perfect for a braai!

Flood Warning:

Monmouth and Ocean counties were under a flood warning earlier today after morning storms dumped a significant amount of rain. Be careful on the roads!

Looking Ahead:

Enjoy the cooler weather early in the week because the heat and humidity will be back later in the week, with temperatures approaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) on Thursday.

Stay safe out there, Mzansi! Keep an eye on the sky and be prepared for some serious weather. Don't forget to check back for updates!
