Brace yourselves, South Africa! As schools reopen, a cold and wet week is forecast for most parts of the country. Expect widespread rain, isolated showers, and even the possibility of light snowfall in some areas.

Rain, Showers, and Snow? Here's the Breakdown

Starting this Monday and continuing into Tuesday, isolated to scattered chances of rain and showers are expected over most of the Northern Cape and into the Eastern Cape. The intensity increases to a 60% chance of rain and showers over the eastern half of the Eastern Cape.

According to SA Weather Service forecaster Lehlogonolo Thobela, there's also a possibility of snow over the high-lying areas of Lesotho and the Drakensberg Mountains, particularly in the extreme eastern parts of the Eastern Cape. A 60% chance of rain and showers also exists along the south coast and southwest coast.

What to Expect Mid-Week

“On Tuesday, isolated showers and rain are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape into the Eastern Cape, the southern parts of the Free State, as well as KwaZulu-Natal and the Lowveld of Mpumalanga,” said Thobela.

“However, a 60% chance of rain and showers is expected over the eastern half of the Eastern Cape into the coastal areas of KwaZulu-Natal later in the afternoon, with the possibility of disruptive rain along the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal,” he added.

Wednesday will bring partly cloudy conditions with cool temperatures dominating over the central and eastern parts of the country. Isolated showers and rain are still expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the Free State, and the southern areas of the North West.

Thursday is expected to maintain partly cloudy conditions over most parts of the country.

Stay Safe and Warm!

Remember to stay informed about weather updates in your area and take necessary precautions to stay safe and warm during this bout of cold and wet weather. Drive carefully, especially in areas prone to flooding or snowfall, and ensure you have adequate heating and warm clothing.
