SASSA Payments August 2025: Are YOU At Risk of Losing Your Grant?
SASSA has released the payment dates for August 2025, but with a warning: grants are under stricter review than ever before. The South African Social Security Agency is cracking down on non-disclosure of income, and beneficiaries who fail to comply with verification requests risk losing their vital financial support.
August 2025 SASSA Payment Dates:
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, August 5th
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, August 6th
- Children’s Grants: Thursday, August 7th
Grant Amounts:
- Old Age (60-74 years) and Disability Grants: R2 315
- Old Age (75+ years) Grant: R2 335
- War Veterans Grant: R2 315
- Care Dependency Grant: R2 315
- Child Support Grant: R560
- Foster Care Grant: R1 250
- SRD Grant: R370
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou stated that while payments will proceed as planned, the agency is implementing stricter means and asset tests, leveraging digital reviews and cross-checks with other government databases. This intensified scrutiny follows the discovery that approximately 210,000 beneficiaries failed to report additional income sources in June, a violation of the Social Assistance Act.
Black Sash has reported a surge in calls from concerned grant recipients who have been cut off without clear explanation. They urge SASSA to improve communication strategies and pause reviews until better systems are in place.
SASSA is urging beneficiaries flagged for potential income non-disclosure to submit the required documents immediately to avoid grant suspension or permanent lapsing. These documents include:
- Certified copy of ID document or smart ID card (with the original)
- Bank statements for the past three months
- Proof of discharge from last employer or a sworn affidavit
- Certified birth certificates of children linked to the grant
- Documentation of property ownership
- Any paperwork reflecting additional income
