SA U19 Star Smashes Record! First Ever Youth ODI Double Century!
Jorich van Schalkwyk has etched his name in cricket history, becoming the first-ever batter to score a double century in a Youth One-Day International (YODI)! The South Africa Under-19 opener achieved this incredible feat against Zimbabwe in Harare on Friday, during the opening match of a tri-series also involving Bangladesh.
Van Schalkwyk's Historic Innings
Van Schalkwyk's record-breaking innings saw him score a magnificent 215 off just 153 balls, including 19 fours and 6 sixes. This surpassed the previous record of 191 held by Sri Lanka's Hasitha Boyagoda. His knock propelled South Africa U19 to a massive total of 385, also a record for the team.
This achievement comes just days after Van Schalkwyk set a national record with an unbeaten 164 against Bangladesh. Unfortunately, that match was cut short due to bad light, denying him the chance to potentially reach a double century then. He more than made up for it against Zimbabwe!
South Africa Dominates Zimbabwe
Following Van Schalkwyk's heroics with the bat, the South African bowlers put in a dominant performance, dismissing Zimbabwe for a mere 107. Enathi Khitshini claimed four wickets, while Bayanda Majola took three. The victory margin of 278 runs was also a record for South Africa U19.
Zimbabwe's Tatenda Chimugoro was the standout bowler for the hosts, taking six wickets for 62 runs. However, his efforts weren't enough to contain the South African batting lineup, spearheaded by the sensational Van Schalkwyk.
Looking Ahead
This emphatic win provides a significant confidence boost for South Africa U19 as they continue their tri-series campaign. All eyes will be on Van Schalkwyk to see if he can continue his incredible form.
