Cape Town – Nigerian rapper Prince Daniel Obioma, known as 3GAR, will be prosecuted for reckless driving following a high-speed McLaren crash in Sea Point earlier this year. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed the news, bringing some closure to a case that has drawn public scrutiny.

High-Speed Crash and Public Outcry

The incident occurred on March 1st on High Level Road. Reports suggest 3GAR's McLaren 570S reached speeds of up to 200km/h before colliding with a wall. The rapper was hospitalized after the crash, and images of the wrecked vehicle circulated widely on social media.

Despite CCTV footage showing the high speed and the significant damage, no immediate arrest was made, leading to public frustration and calls for accountability.

NPA Confirms Prosecution

NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila stated that the decision to prosecute has been made. “We have decided to prosecute. He will be summoned, but he has not yet been served with a J175. There is no court date at this stage.”

The delay in action had drawn criticism, with DA MP Nicholas Gotsell emphasizing that “nobody is above the law.” He added, “Reckless drivers have no place tearing through our neighbourhoods and endangering lives.”
