Brace Yourselves! Cold Front Slams Western Cape & Namaqua This Weekend!
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe weather warning for the Western Cape and Namaqua regions as a powerful cold front prepares to make landfall this weekend. Residents are urged to take precautions as damaging waves and gale-force winds are expected.
Severe Weather Warning Issued
Nabeel Rylands, Director of Disaster Risk Reduction for the Western Cape, warns of challenging conditions arriving on Saturday and Sunday. The combination of cold temperatures, heavy rainfall, and strong winds poses a significant risk to coastal communities.
What to Expect:
- Gale Force Winds: Expect strong winds across the province, potentially causing damage to property and infrastructure.
- Damaging Waves: Waves of up to six metres high are predicted between Cape Columbine and Plettenberg Bay.
- Cold and Wet Conditions: Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, accompanied by persistent rainfall.
Communities along the coast, including Cape Town, George, Mossel Bay, and Overstrand, are particularly vulnerable. Rylands urges residents to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
"Small boats and kayaks should stay out of the water, and beachgoers must be alert to large unpredictable waves," Rylands cautioned.
Staying Safe During the Cold Front
SAWS advises residents to monitor weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines. Secure loose objects around your property, avoid unnecessary travel, and be prepared for potential power outages. For detailed information on the storm's potential impact, visit the SAWS website.
Stay safe, South Africa!
