Newcastle Eye Porto Star! Aghehowa Transfer on the Cards?
Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa to bolster their attack this summer. The 21-year-old is among a shortlist of options being considered by the Magpies after they missed out on several initial targets. While a formal approach hasn't been made yet, and the transfer is far from guaranteed, Aghehowa is a player Newcastle's management team admires.
The club's search for a striker intensifies amidst uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak's future, despite rejecting a substantial £110m offer from Liverpool for the Swedish international. Coach Eddie Howe acknowledged the urgent need for reinforcements ahead of the new season, stating that the club is "not deluded" about their current situation.
Aghehowa, previously known as Omorodion, had a stellar debut season with Porto, netting 27 goals in 45 appearances. Notably, he scored twice against Manchester United in the Europa League group stage, contributing to a thrilling 3-3 draw. This performance has undoubtedly caught the eye of several clubs, including Newcastle.
Newcastle previously pursued RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, even having a bid accepted. However, Sesko ultimately preferred a move to Manchester United. Other potential targets for Newcastle include Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen, although Wolves consider Strand Larsen as not for sale.
The coming weeks will be crucial as Newcastle look to secure a striker to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Premier League season. The potential acquisition of Aghehowa could provide the firepower they desperately need.
