Al Ahly Request Foreign Referees for Pyramids Clash! Is This Fair Play?

Al Ahly, the Cairo Red Devils, are reportedly making a special request to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) for their upcoming Egyptian Premier League match against Pyramids FC. Word on the street is they want foreign referees to officiate the high-stakes clash. This isn't the first time Al Ahly has made such a request. Last season, the EFA brought in a Norwegian refereeing team for the Cairo Derby against arch-rivals Zamalek.

The club's move comes after their league title defence started with a 2-2 draw against Modern Future. Coach Riveiro faced some criticism after the game, adding extra pressure ahead of the Pyramids match. Egyptian journalist Amir Hisham broke the news on "Plus 90", stating that Al Ahly is formally requesting the EFA to appoint foreign referees for the game.

Last season, both Premier League encounters between Al Ahly and Pyramids ended in draws, suggesting a tight contest. Before facing Pyramids on 30 August in Cairo, Al Ahly still has matches against Pharco and Ghazl el Mahalla. This request highlights the importance they place on this particular game, aiming to ensure what they perceive as fair officiating.

Meanwhile, ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt is assessing a former Mamelodi Sundowns & Al Ahly star at Durban City, giving the 27-year-old wideman an opportunity to reinvent himself. Hunt believes the player can bounce back, as he builds his Durban City squad. This move shows Hunt's commitment to identifying and nurturing talent.

The question remains whether bringing in foreign referees will truly guarantee fairer officiating.
