Rodri 'Perfect,' Cherki Return Cautious: Man City Injury Update!
Manchester City fans, here's the latest on two key players: Rodri and Rayan Cherki. After the draw against Monaco, manager Pep Guardiola addressed concerns about Rodri's fitness.
Rodri's Condition: 'Perfect' But Managed
Guardiola confirmed that Rodri's substitution against Monaco was purely tactical. Despite a knee problem that sidelined him earlier, Rodri is now reportedly 'perfect' and available for selection against Brentford. However, Guardiola is wary of overplaying him, especially given the demanding schedule of recent weeks. He acknowledged Rodri isn't quite ready to play three high-intensity games a week yet, emphasizing the need for patience in his recovery.
"Now he is not injured but the week before was so demanding with United, Napoli and especially Arsenal and right now he's not able to play three games in a week at a top level - top intensity, demanding opponents," Guardiola said.
Cherki's Return: No Risks Taken
Good news arrived earlier with Rayan Cherki returning to training after missing six matches due to injury. However, Guardiola is taking a very cautious approach with the mercurial playmaker. Cherki is unlikely to feature against Monaco or Brentford. The club doesn't want to risk a more serious injury that could sideline him for an extended period, potentially requiring surgery.
Guardiola explained: ” It’s so risky because next time it’s surgery, next time it’s four or five months.” He indicated that Cherki will likely return after the upcoming international break, allowing him ample time to recover fully.
"Rayan Cherki has a special quality in a tight game, in the final third, with his vision and pass, which is difficult to find. That is why it’s important for him to come back and not make a step back.”
Looking Ahead
While Rodri should be available, whether he starts against Brentford remains to be seen. As for Cherki, patience is key. City clearly values his unique abilities but prioritizes his long-term health and fitness. The focus is on ensuring he returns fully fit and avoids any setbacks.
