Dallin H. Oaks Chosen as New President of Jesus Christ Church

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced Dallin H. Oaks as its 18th president and prophet. The announcement, made during a live broadcast from Salt Lake City, Utah, marks a significant transition for the global faith.

A New Era of Leadership

President Oaks, aged 93, succeeds President Russell M. Nelson, who passed away on September 27, 2025. The selection process, described as divinely inspired, involves the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles assuming leadership and confirming the new prophet through revelation and priesthood authority.

"I accept with humility the responsibility that God has placed upon me and commit my whole heart and soul to the service to which I’ve been called," President Oaks stated.

First Presidency Appointments

Alongside President Oaks, President Henry B. Eyring, 92, and President D. Todd Christofferson, 80, have been appointed as First and Second Counselors in the First Presidency, the Church's highest governing body. Jeffrey R. Holland, 84, will serve as President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

President Eyring expressed his support, saying, "I know that he is the head of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by inspiration. I have seen the power of God come upon him." President Christofferson, an attorney, was first called as an apostle in 2008.

The Church's Structure and Governance

The First Presidency plays a crucial role in guiding the Church's more than 17 million members worldwide. The appointments reflect a continuity of leadership within the established structure of the Church.

  • President: Dallin H. Oaks
  • First Counselor: Henry B. Eyring
  • Second Counselor: D. Todd Christofferson
  • President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: Jeffrey R. Holland

The Church continues to emphasize its commitment to following the Lord's will through its appointed servants.
