The Gary Sinise Foundation, guided by actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, has achieved a significant milestone: gifting its 100th specially adapted, mortgage-free home to a wounded veteran. This incredible feat underscores the foundation's unwavering commitment to supporting those who have sacrificed so much for their country.
Restoring Independence, Supporting Empowerment
The foundation's R.I.S.E. program (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) builds custom smart homes for severely wounded veterans and first responders. These homes are designed to eliminate daily challenges and provide a sense of independence and security.
A New Chapter For Sergeant Bowser
Retired US Army Sergeant First Class Joe Bowser, severely wounded in Iraq in 2004, received the 100th home built by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Bowser lost his leg in a rocket attack while serving his country. The new home represents a fresh start and a chance to live with dignity and comfort.
- The Gary Sinise Foundation has been working since 2011.
- The foundation moved to Tennessee three years ago.
- The 100th home was gifted to Sergeant Bowser.
"It's a new chapter in our life," Bowser said. "To have a brand new home and be mortgage-free, it's like winning the lottery."
More Than Just Walls
The impact of the Gary Sinise Foundation extends far beyond the physical structure of the homes they build. They provide hope, independence, and a renewed sense of purpose for veterans and their families.
The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) also partners with the Gary Sinise Foundation. They provide flooring for the homes. They recently completed their 81st home with the foundation. The NWFA is working with its members to source flooring for 18 more R.I.S.E. homes.
The Gary Sinise Foundation's work is a testament to the power of compassion and the importance of honoring our veterans. Their dedication to providing support and resources to those who have served is truly inspiring. This story resonates globally, including in Ghana, where appreciation for service and sacrifice is deeply valued.
