Eiii Ghana! Father's Day dey come top again! Every year, third Sunday of June we dey celebrate the men dem wey be our fathers. This year, 2025 inside, Father's Day be June 15th. Time dey come make we show love give the men wey dey sacrifice for we, dey guide we, and dey protect we like lion!
Some people dey ask, how Father's Day start? Well, story dey! One woman for America, her name be Sonora Smart Dodd. Her papa be Civil War veteran, William Jackson Smart. The woman mama die when she born, so the papa take care of all the children dem alone. Sonora see how her papa dey struggle but still dey give them everything, so she say she go create Father's Day make everybody celebrate fathers like them dey celebrate mothers.
She talk to people for her town, she write for newspaper dem, she talk to churches and business people. Everyone listen to her, and for 1910, the first Father's Day celebration happen for Washington state for America. E be nice thing eh?
But you know, some people no dey too happy about Father's Day at first. Them say fathers no be sentimental like mothers. Them say to celebrate fathers ein tenderness no be important. E take long time before the government agree to make Father's Day official holiday.
But today, Father's Day be big thing for all over the world! E be time to show our papas love, to give them gifts, to cook for them, and to tell them thank you for everything dem do for we. Ghana sef, we dey celebrate Father's Day proper! From Accra to Kumasi, every corner of the country dey feel the love.
How to Celebrate Father's Day for Ghana Style?
- Cook ein favorite food: Ghana men love food! Fufu and goat light soup? Banku and tilapia? Jollof? Make am for him!
- Give him something special: Cloth, shoes, watch, maybe even small bottle of gin!
- Spend time with him: Talk to him, laugh with him, watch football with him. Your presence dey mean everything!
- Tell him you love him: Simple words, but dem dey carry power!
More than just a Day: Honoring Fathers Everyday
Father's Day be important, but we for remember to appreciate our fathers everyday. Dem be the heroes wey no dey wear cape, but dem dey protect we and dey guide we. So, make we celebrate them proper, not just for one day, but for every day we dey live.
