Road to the T20 World Cup
Zimbabwe and Namibia are two of eight teams competing in the T20 World Cup qualifiers, which will be held in Harare from September 26th to October 4th. The top two teams from the Africa Qualifier will secure their spots at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Zimbabwe will enter the series with the same squad that recently challenged Sri Lanka in a thrilling T20I contest, even though they lost the series 2-1. Head coach Justin Sammons sees the Namibia series as a valuable opportunity to build momentum before the qualifier. He emphasized the need to build on the positives from the Sri Lanka series and stated that facing Namibia will provide the ideal contest needed before the qualifier.
Sammons further added that Namibia is a quality team with a consistent performance record in this format, therefore, these matches will demand the very best from his team. For Zimbabwe, it’s about refining plans, perfecting combinations, and ensuring confidence and battle-readiness for the qualifier.
Zimbabwe last participated in a T20 World Cup in the 2022 edition in Australia. However, they missed out on qualifying for the 2024 tournament held in the West Indies and the USA, as Uganda and Namibia secured the two qualifying spots from the Africa qualifiers.
Zimbabwe Squad: Sikandar Raza (Captain), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Brad Evans, Trevor Gwandu, Tinotenda Maposa, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Tony Munyonga.
