Lions Unleashed! Mpeku Shocks Bulls in URC Derby Showdown!

Johannesburg – The Emirates Lions have named their squad to face the Vodacom Bulls in a highly anticipated Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) clash at Loftus Versfeld this Saturday. In a surprising move, young winger Kelly Mpeku has been preferred over Angelo Davids, signaling a bold selection strategy from the Lions coaching staff.

Mpeku's Opportunity to Shine

Mpeku's inclusion on the wing alongside Eduan Keyter provides an exciting attacking dimension for the Lions. However, the selection of Bronson Mills at inside centre has raised eyebrows, given his recent off-field controversy with potential legal ramifications. This decision adds an extra layer of intrigue to the already charged derby atmosphere.

Strong Lions Side Named

Despite the controversial selection, the Lions have largely opted for their strongest available side. Former Bulls flyhalf Chris Smith will pull the strings at pivot, while Quan Horn anchors the backline at fullback. Henco van Wyk provides further midfield dynamism. Francke Horn will lead the team from the back of the scrum, supported by Jarrod Cairns and Ruan Venter in the loose trio.

Debut for Davids from the Bench

Former Griquas prop Eddie Davids is set to make his debut for the Lions from the bench, adding further depth and experience to the forward pack.
