Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid: Key Players Return for Crucial LaLiga Clash
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has expressed his relief as key players return from injury ahead of their vital LaLiga match against Atletico Madrid. The clash, scheduled for Tuesday, could significantly impact the top of the league standings.
Barca currently sits atop LaLiga after a 3-1 victory over Alaves on Saturday. However, Atletico Madrid is breathing down their necks, just three points behind in fourth place. The return of crucial players could provide the much-needed boost for the Catalan giants.
Pedri and De Jong Back in the Mix
Midfielder Pedri made a comeback as a substitute in the Alaves game after being sidelined for over a month with a hamstring issue. He is expected to start against Diego Simeone's Atletico. Frenkie de Jong, who missed the Alaves match due to family reasons, is also set to return to the starting lineup.
"I'm really happy. The players are coming back, maybe we can increase our level. This is the most important thing," Flick stated, highlighting the significance of having his key players available.
Araujo Still Out
However, it's not all good news for Barcelona. Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo remains unavailable for selection. His absence will be a concern for Flick, who has faced criticism for Barcelona's inconsistent performances this season.
Barcelona Aiming for Improvement
Despite leading the league, Flick acknowledged that Barcelona needs to improve their form. He pointed out disappointing defeats against Chelsea (3-0), Real Madrid (2-1), and Paris Saint-Germain (2-1) as evidence of their shortcomings.
"I know we are not (in) top (form) like last season," he admitted. "But we have potential. And we have to increase our level." The return of key players provides a much-needed opportunity for Barcelona to regain their top form and solidify their position at the top of LaLiga.
